How To Create a Facebook Application

You must have seen several applications. Examples of applications can be
1. An extra tab in facebook page
2. A single page game like farmville
3. A standalone website which displays facebook contents.

The first step of all the above examples is creating a facebook application. Creating a facebook application provides you appid and app secret which are needed for creating any application.

Step 1: Login to Facebook
Login to facebook like you do normally.

Step 2: Visit Facebook developer page
Facebook developer page provides option for you to create new app and also various other useful resources to build your app.

Step 3: Create New App
Click Apps link on top menu. This page displays information about all existing apps and also a provision to create a new app.

Inside the popup dialog box, enter the name of your new app.

This app name will be publicly displayed when your app does something like uploading a post. Below is a question uploaded by me using my app. You can see the app name below the question.

After clicking ‘continue’, you may have to verify a captcha image. Now your app is created with a valid app id and app secret.
